چکیده

A feasibility study with three pre-conditioning times was carried out to examine the effect of anaerobic pre-treatment on phosphorus removal by aeration. The results showed that soluble phosphorus could be decreased from 120 mg L−1 to about 40 mg L−1 within one-day aeration. However, soluble phosphorus concentration was found not affected by pre-conditioning, but more pH dependent. Anaerobic pre-treatment significantly increased the uptake of phosphorus by microbes indicated by the increase in concentration of organic phosphorus fraction. The presence of a large proportion of inorganic insoluble phosphorus considerably eclipsed the biological removal of soluble phosphorus, which suggested that the solids/liquid separation before aeration could be important to improve the biological uptake of soluble phosphorus.

The effect of limited aeration on swine manure phosphorus removal.

Two low level aeration schemes (intermittent vs. continuous) were investigated on a laboratory scale, in conjunction with swine manure pH adjustment using sodium hydroxide (1.0 M), for manure phosphorus (P) removal. According to the data, an 80% reduction in soluble P was observed when the manure pH was increased to 8. Both intermittent and continuous aeration treatments could raise manure pH a...

Effect of Anaerobic Digestion on Manure Characteristics for Phosphorus Precipitation from Swine Waste

Swine production facilities today are larger in size and are concentrated in smaller geographical areas than they were two decades ago. Additionally, there is an increasing trend to base manure land application rates on crop phosphorus requirements rather than crop nitrogen requirements alone. These factors have resulted in a need to find a feasible method for removing phosphorus from swine was...

A two-step fed SBR for treating swine manure

Specially designed sequencing batch reactors (SBR) may be a solution to disposal of massive pig manure, rich in nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P), produced by concentrated swine operations. In this study, the technical feasibility of simultaneous N and P removals for swine manure was investigated through a bench-scale SBR system operated in a cyclic fashion of anaerobic–anoxic–anoxic/anaerobic–an...

Integrating an intermittent aerator in a swine wastewater treatment system for land-limited conditions

A full scale swine (300 pigs) waste treatment system, including a solid/liquid separation unit (3 m) with a solids holding tank (1.2 m) and a liquid holding tank (20 m), two anaerobic reactors (10 m each) in series, an intermittent aeration unit (20 m), a sedimentation/polishing unit (20 m) and a sludge dewatering bed (17 m), was used to investigate the impact of integrating an intermittent aer...

Phosphorus Removal from Dairy Wastewater in Batch Systems under Simultaneous Aerobic/Anaerobic Conditions: Application of Response Surface Methodology

The objective of this paper is simultaneous of aerobic and anaerobic process for phosphorus removal from a dairy wastewater. The system consists of a granular sequencing batch reactor (SBR) working under alternating aerobic/anaerobic conditions. In order to analyze the process, four significant variables viz. MLSS, COD/N ratio, aeration time and cycling time and four dependent parameters as the...
